B.1.3 School District Financing Options

Local districts finance their share of school construction and modernization project costs primarily with revenue raised through local GO bond elections. From November 2002 through 2017, voters authorized over $99 billion in local GO bonds186 to finance school facility improvements. School facilities can also be financed by developer fees, parcel taxes and other voter approved debt such as special taxes, and these amounts are in addition to and not reflected in the $99 billion identified above.
